Heres a little story. A boy is taught things like religion - TopicsExpress

Heres a little story. A boy is taught things like religion even though he has no way of knowing how to think otherwise. Then when he learns more about the religion, starts to think a different way, his mother pretends to agree with him, seeks his council, pretends to value his wisdom only to turn around and say she is more willing to listen to supposed advice from the feeling of the Holy Spirit in her head rather than the thoughts and feelings of her own child standing in front of her. What I want people to gain from this story and more to come is a sense of how teaching children religion in a dogmatic way is I believe child abuse and can be highly damaging. First up I want to say that when Im talking about teaching children religion, Im not talking about the kind where a child learns about a religion in order to gain a greater understanding of the world. Im talking about the kind that makes a child believe they are right and the rest of the entire world is wrong. The kind where a child is taught all other people who dont believe what we believe will burn in hell forever and so will you if you decide not to believe. The kind where young girls are taught their only real purpose in life is to one day be servant for their husband and they are intrinsically lesser than men. This way of teaching a child needs to be discussed and I will continue to do so as I continue writing. My hope in starting this blog is to discuss some topics that often can only be presented from the perspective of a child who has been there, seen and experienced what its like and come out the other side. I hope to deliberately offend the people who think that a child should not be taught to think for themselves and to hopefully promote a more mindful, thought provoking society in which we teach our children to champion questions, challenge norms and pursue life. - Jacob
