Heres a marvelous example of glo-BALI-sasi (bringing Bali to the world, rather than just bringing the whole darn world to Bali for a cheap messy holiday). I got this message from Andrew Quintman of the Dept of Religious Studies at Yale University ([email protected]). Theyve prepared a very special, serious, and insightful program, Visions of the Sacred focusing on the puppets and peforming arts of South and Southeast Asia. With, of course, a significant emphasis on Balis traditions. Curated by Kathy Foley, who is exceptionally well-qualified to bring out the real juice and the most powerful representative elements of these art forms. Bali figures prominently, of course, as it should. The exhibition/program runs from 3 April to 20 June at the Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall Street, New Haven. Do not miss the Curators Reception on 8 April at the Whitney Center, at 5pm sharp.
