Heres a promised video clip of an introduction. after my round pen got broken I turned them out together. The little bay in the foreground is the new one who was an unraced unbacked runt. To make the first time on a trailer easier I borrowed a stable mate who had raced but had no bmt and was sent home. He had no confidence coming out of a racing stable and got badly kicked in a polo yard. A year later home on the range he changed and took the little guy under his wing and bravely protected him in stand up fights with the alphas. He took a beating but apart from a few bruises was returned home sound. I then stepped into the role of the protector when among the herd. Your new kid on the block horse needs a friend more than any other time so it is a good time to bond. When you turn them out on their own make sure it is a big field with no chance of getting cornered. Even better, turn them out together onto a big fresh pasture. The same is true of dogs new to each other - take them for a walk onto some new or fresh territory without leads and they will run as a pack and not gang up on each other. As Ray Hunt put it Turn Loose.
