Heres a shout out to Keenan Lineback from the USD Surf Club, the USD Sport Clubs Fall Kickoff Top Athlete Award Winner! Heres a little more directly from her: -I am studying International Business, future plans most likely involve grad school...not sure where yet though! Hobbies: I am on the Swim and Dive team here at USD so I definitely spend a lot of my time swimming as a Division I athlete. Other than swimming and surfing I also enjoy running and just going to the beach to soak up some sun. -I started surfing when I was 9 years old. A pretty cool surf story that I have is from when I was 12 years old when I was a member of the ESA All Star team and we took a trip to Australia. We were in West Oz at Margaret River and the waves were 16 feet. Some of the guys went out, but not that many...and I was the only girl to paddle out. I have an older brother who has always pushed me and he definitely had a huge impact on why I decided to paddle out with them because I was definitely scared. This really opened up my eyes to bigger waves and looking back, I am so glad that I decided to go for it with all of the guys. -My day at Blacks Beach started very very early because I was the very first heat at 7 am. I wasnt super happy with how I surfed in my first heat, it might have been because it was early and I wasnt fully awake yet, but I definitely feel like I improved with each heat that I surfed. The conditions were definitely a bit tricky, but in my semi-final and final heat, I seemed to be able to pick out some good waves that allowed me to get some high scores. I think I won because I chose solid waves that allowed me to get multiple good maneuvers. I also had ATM and Forrest from the surf team cheering me on which definitely helped! -Something unique: People are always super surprised when they ask me where I am from and I say South Carolina, because it is not very well known in the surf world and we do not have the best waves. Another thing that could be unique is that when I visit home, my brother takes me hunting on our plantation which is really fun!
