Heres a small, small sample of something new Im working on: -W The heaviness of the stale air inside my office was suffocating. An old, metal fan whizzed away at the corner of the desk attempting to circulate a breeze with no luck. Feet propped up on the desk; I leaned back in my chair and stared out the lone, open window of my office. Nights like these I wish I had opened my office in a more modern building; a building that had air conditioning, at the least. The moonless night sky was clear, like a blank blackboard waiting for some sort of excitement to be scrawled on it. Loosening the thick tie around my neck, I unbuttoned my collar before wiping sweat off my brow with the cloth handkerchief I always keep in my pocket. The office is dark save for the solitary lamp stationed on my desk and the glow of the fluorescent lights in the hallway illuminating through the glass partition of my door. Bold, black letters spelling out FRANK WOLFWOOD P.I. are spread out across the other side of the glass. Leaning over sideways, I slide open the bottom drawer in my desk and take out a stout highball glass and bottle of 1820 O’Doyle Scotch. Few things are better on a low class, sweltering summer night than a glass of high born Scotch. Filling the glass half-way I put the bottle back in the drawer and get out of my chair to stand in front of the window with the glass in my hand. I slight breeze finds its way over my face as I take the first sip of the light brown liquid. It’s smooth as it glides over my lips and down into my stomach. “Excuse me, Mr. Wolfwood.” I almost choked on my drink as I spun from the open window towards the shimmering voice of a beautiful blonde who had appeared in the middle of my office with nothing so much as a peep. Even in spite of the heavy curtain of darkness that was draped over the room, this woman managed to glow, ethereal, as she sashayed forward into the dim, yellow light of my desk lamp. Her slim, pallid face was half-hidden behind a drapery of radiant blonde hair that hung down below her shoulders.
