Heres a system Ive been using and refining for the last couple of months to measure the quality of college football teams. It accurately predicted the four playoff teams and put them ahead of the two left out teams: 1. Award one point for net wins. Example: Michigan State has 10 wins, minus 2 defeats, equals 8 points. 2. Award one point for net wins of all Power 5 teams beaten and ignore non Power 5 teams and wins vs Power 5 teams with losing records. Example: MSU gets 6 pts for beating 9-3 Nebraska, 2 pts each for Maryland and Rutgers, and nothing for Indiana, Michigan, etc ... 3. Deduct one point for every game lost by the teams a team loses to. Example: MSU loses one point each for losing to Ohio State and Oregon. Michigan State gets 17 points out of this formula. Heres the final results for the six teams in playoff contention: Florida State +38 Oregon +38 Alabama +36 Ohio St +28 Baylor +25 TCU +25
