Heres a thought. Im watching a piece on rental affordability in the Metro Vancouver area. So, what if people with suites rented their units to people (that qualified through social assistance programmes or a ratio pre-set by the municipality or province) at below market prices. In return, the owners would receive some sort of tax break, or benefit. This would enable the renters to get themselves on their feet faster, and hopefully move up the rental market, freeing the suite for the next deserving person or family. Units would need to pass inspection to alleviate abuses by potential landlords. Perhaps part of the rent could be helping with maintenance, etc. just a thought. Am I crazy?? (Well probably - but is the idea crazy?)
