Heres a throwback Friday memory (yeah, I just make this up as I go). In the early and mid 90s when Country music was sweeping the nation as a craze in all demographics, as a Nashville based drummer, I was playing many gigs in the genre both locally and on the road. When I would be playing at any large A circuit club, there would be literally hundreds of people on the dance floor doing the song and genre specific dances of the day. I never could figure out how I could be playing a groove in 4 and people would be doing a dance called the 2 step that had foot motions in 3...? Or...they would be doing a line dance that would have one extra step in it making their count 1 shift over at the end of each repetition until eventually (after many reps of the dance segment) they would realign with the real count 1. Yikes...! Must have been common core dancing!
