Burris 18 hrs · Oaklander identifies Fergusons challenging political, social and police issues but Oakland has a long history since the Black Panther days of addressing police misconduct. Like Ferguson, Oaklands bellwether case was Melvin Black, 14year old AA boy shot and killed by Oakland police officers while running away. There was community outrage with protest, this was well before Oscar Grant. I was hired by the city as an independent private investigator and the case since shock waves throughout the community. Police misconduct has been front and center every since. Lets hope that Ferguson community seizes this opportunity to address the issues underlying the protest related to Michael Browns death. Although, it has been hard, change has occurred in Oakland and so it can occur in Ferguson if there is willingness acknowledge and confront the underlying issues.
