Heres an interesting problem. Make a list of numbers comprised only of powers of 3. You can combine one or two or more numbers that are powers of 3. But they have to be distinct powers. So you can have 3^0, 3^0+3^1, 3^0+3^1+3^2 and so on. You can also have 3^0+3^2, 3^0+3^3,3^0+3^1+3^2 and so on. You cant have 3^0+3^0, for instance, because the powers have to be distinct. Got it? Good! Now arrange them in ascending order and tell me what the 49th term is I didnt get it straight off either, but the humbling thing is, it is from a quiz administered to my nieces math club. The club is comprised of sixth, seventh and eighth graders!
