Heres an interesting tension: often what we deem as ethical, spiritual, or moral problems within the church, are often theological problems. There is a Latin maxim that was coined in the early developmental years of the Christian Church that went like this: lex orendi, lex crendendi, lex vivendi. It translates, the law of prayer/worship is indicative of the law of belief, which will ultimately effect the law of life. What we want to change is the behavior when all actually what needs to change is their belief. THATS A THEOLOGICAL PROBLEM. Lets prove it. There is this dynamic interplay between Jesus and this unnamed woman at the well. She had been castigated due to her behavior. Read the exchange between the two and Jesus asked ONE question about her relational status but made REPEATED references to her revelatory standings. If you knew who you were talking with you would be asking ME to give you life giving water. You worship what you KNOW NOT. The behavior is symptomatic of a bigger belief issue. We cannot become emotional over theological problems. Thats not personal thats piety. Until we can change their theology you wont change their theatrics. You have to biblically model the behavior that you are wishing for them to exhibit. When the word is accurate it raises accountability. You know because YOUVE BEEN TAUGHT. And trust me, THE WORD WORKS.
