Heres an update on the runway upgrade project at Dubai International: The runway upgrade project is ahead of schedule with work on the southern runway completed today (May 27) – four full days ahead of the planned May 31 completion date – and is now back in operation. The northern runway is now closed for refurbishment and will remain so until July 20. During the first 27 days of the project 2,500 construction workers were involved in refurbishing the 4km long runway. A total of 800,000 tonnes of aggregates, 11,000 airfield lighting bulbs, 1,050kilometers of cabling, 1,750 new manholes and 8.3km of drainage piping will be used on both runways during the refurbishment programme.
