Heres another short story before I go back to school. :)) Staring CaLeo Back to Ogygia Calypso sat in the golden sand, watching the sun set on the horizon. She moved her fingers idly along the white fabric of her dress, frowning. The sunset no longer seemed as beautiful when she had to watch it alone. A spot in the distance caught Calypso’s eye. It grew larger, coming closer across the water. Calypso squinted. It almost resembled a ship. Calypso pursed her lips and braced herself for the new hero she would receive. After Leo’s departure, the idea of another visit from anyone else felt like torture. What if this hero wasn’t as good as Leo. Or worse, what if she loved him more than she loved Leo? Calypso didn’t want to forget Leo, but the gods were cruel. Every time she met a new hero, she loved him more than the last, and his memory faded slowly. She would give anything for the same not to happen to Leo. The ship docked on the shore. It was small, only large enough to hold one or two people. The engineering was perfect and the sail was set just so, almost leading Calypso to believe the hero had set course specifically for Ogygia. Only that was impossible. Deciding she wanted a few more moments to herself before her heart was broken yet again, Calypso stood and began to walk back to her home. Her bare feet felt heavy in that sand. Calypso tensed as she heard footsteps coming behind her. Her spine went stiff, and she bit her lips, trying not to let her tears fall. She was overwhelmed with a sense of foreboding and fear. A hand clasped her shoulder. “I hope you made dinner for two,” a voice said quietly, a hint of good-natured joking in it. A strangled sound escaped Calypso’s lips. She turned around, and she cried harder as she took in Leo’s face in the pale moonlight. Nothing about him had changed. His curly black hair was still in dissaray, and he wore a sneaky smile as if he had a hilarious joke he was waiting to tell. Calypso threw her arms around Leo, pressing her lips to his over and over. Leo circled his hands around her waist, kissing her back. Long time no see, Leo said casually, even though he looked more relieved than he let on. Still beautiful, though. His compliment nearly didn’t register. Calypso took Leo’s cheeks in her hands, studying him closely. It took seconds for her to calm down just enough to be able to speak. But… how? she asked, quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. How did you come back? No hero ever finds Ogygia- Leo gave Calypso a lopsided smile. “Considering, I’m not exactly a hero, I think the gods made an exception.” Calypso pulled Leo closer and kissed him again, then gave him a relieved smile. She laughed quietly, the corners of her almond eyes creasing. “Don’t say that, stupid. You’re a hero to me.” -TA Connor
