Heres another well known beauty from Kabir: माला कहे है काठ की तू क्यों फेरे मोहे मन का मनका फेर दे सो तुरत मिला दूँ तोहे ~ कबीर مالا کہے ہے کاٹھ کی تو کیوں پھیرے موہے من کا منکا پھیر دے سو ترت ملا دوں توہے ~ کبیر mālā kahe hai kāṭh kī tū kyoṃ phere mohe man kā manakā pher de so turat milā dūṃ tohe ~ Kabir Says the wooden rosary, Why do you fix your attention on turning me? Turn your attention to your inner self, And I shall help you unite with it. Couplet contributed along with a commentary by B NB Here then is a comment on his observation of the practice of maalaa phernaa (chanting with the help of a rosary). The wooden rosary asks the seeker why he turns its beads. It suggests that if he were to turn the direction of his mind (from outwards to inwards) he would instantly meet what he seeks - union with the transcendental self. Note the beautiful play on the word man. Man means mind whereas manakaa means a bead of the rosary. The word pher too, is used to indicate two different contexts - in the first instance it refers to a turning of the rosary bead, while in the second instance it refers to the turning of direction of awareness - from outward to inwards. Kabir the weaver saint wove simple words into situations that surround our daily lives. He interwove various religious precepts much the same way as he went around seeking the ultimate truth in his own unique way.
