Heres how it works Lunapads generously allows One Horizon to use their designs to make women’s sanitary pads for the women and girls in our centres. One Horizon gets the women who are being trained as seamstresses to make the pads – that’s invaluable practice for them. The manufacturing centre is paid a market rate for the pad production and the profit is used to pay for the women’s training program. The women also receive a salary from One Horizon which pays for their food and rent. This helps sustain the women as they train and the centre is able to run its programs. The ladies will be able to generate an income as seamstresses with their new skills when they ‘graduate’. They will also have the opportunity to come back and be employed in the manufacturing centre. Currently the centre is producing over 1000 school uniforms a year adn the pads will be in constant production very soon. The sanitary pads are then taken by our staff to our other centres (particularly the Rescue Centres for girls). This means that the girls no longer have to miss school each month. So it’s a win-win situation all round. And so the cycle goes on.
