Heres long time Ocean Park resident, Esther McCoy 1904-89 (foreground) at SM Pier Sept 5th, 1949. Esther McCoy was one of the foremost architectural writers of the twentieth century. A gifted literary stylist and keen social critic, her work recognized the genesis of American architectural modernism, witnessed the birth of mid-century design, and ignited public awareness to it. Shown with her is husband, Berkeley Tobey, Vera Dreiser (left), and Helen Dreiser (behind her) - the Dreisers were siblings/cousins of famed author Theodore Dreiser (The Titan, Sister Carry, American Tragedy - Hollywood resident for number of years) and composer Paul Dresser. Many of the Dreisers lived and worked in the area.
