Heres my Get Reel column for this week. Lake Macquarie There’s some nice flathead abut in the Lake. 5 inch soft plastics are working best in 2-7 meter water. A few nice bream were caught through the week with night time and lightly weighted baits giving you the best chance. School Jew are hanging around Toronto and the Southern side of Pulbah. I fished the Lake on Sunday and caught a mixed bag of Flathead, Bream and Salmon. The Salmon was a real surprise, it took a bait jig while I was fishing for livies and fought deep without jumping once. The average size of the flattys was 60cm and they were very aggressive. A few long tom are cruising around the Lake too so the warmer water must be on its way. Newcastle Stockton beach is fishing well for Jewies, most are only soapies but there is a few better schoolies mixed in. Adam Taylor got into his first Jewy last week, it went 60cm and he caught it on his bream rod with 6lb line. A few Kingfish are starting to move closer to shore with a few more legal ones taken this week around 65-70cm trolling livies and casting poppers is the way to go. The river is fishing well for Flattys and the odd School Jew. Jason Stephenson, Brett and Geoff had a cracker session fishing the river catching a swag of Flattys and Bream. Port Stephens Drummer are still being caught in the wash around little island and are taking peeled prawns unweighted. Some nice squire are also being taken around the island on lightly weighted baits. Some cracker Snapper to 6kg were caught around Broughten Island and Cod rock through the week on floating baits down a burley trail. On the wider reefs a few trag are starting to show up but are not in big numbers yet. A few bonito are hanging around the sisters breakers and so are some undersize rat kings. Further north around Edith Breakers the Snapper are firing and some nice flathead around the grounds too.
