Weather maps contain information about wind direction and anomaly rain rate per day and of course the date & time as well About the winds -The black arrows plotted on this image are wind vectors. These vectors indicate direction and intensity of the wind. The vectors point in the direction to which the wind is blowing. Intensity of the wind is conveyed through the size of the vector. The longer the arrows, the stronger the winds. The shorter arrows, the weaker the winds. -Or the arrow sizes show the relative wind speed for each map, with the longest length scaled to represent the highest wind speed. Wind direction is indicated by the arrow direction. The start of the arrow is the direction that the wind is blowing from. The arrow point shows the direction the wind is blowing to. About the rains -The different colors below the map are indicates the rate of rainfall per day, which is millimetre/s ( mm ) or in short: mm/day. Although the colors are really dont measured the exact/real amount of upon a present rainfall; however, that kind of information can predicts anomaly and can be processed to derive an estimate of how much rain is falling over the ocean, sea, lands. -The wind analyses predicted & rainfall accumulated forecasts are generated automatically by computer models and daily updated thrice a day (Local Time). Extended Special forecasts! ;) :) As of now, Tropical Storm Mekkhala is expected to continue gaining strength throughout the forecast outlook as it moves over the warm sea surface temperatures (SSTs) of the Philippine Sea. The deep convection has strengthen and intensification goes on at a limited rate, the environmental conditions should keep on being favourable for further intensification, Mekkhala is likely to keep on deepening. Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its avg 10-minute maximum sustained winds increasing not as too much & must have packing winds in excess peaking of 90 Km/h or 50 Knots to be enough. Thats too far into a typhoon wind force strength per according to Japan Meteorological Agency which is official for western pacific basin. While the winds will not be as a very strong later in the weekend, the tropical storm will have far/near-reaching effects to accompany the gusty winds, a band of soaking light to moderate at times heavy to intense rainfall will be still possible to move across the Bicol region in the Philippines. However, as the stormy weather will remain a scenario & threat across much of the aforementioned region. The value of maximum sustained wind is different between JMA and JTWC, and in most cases, the value of JTWC is higher than that of JMA. The primary reason is difference in the definition of maximum sustained wind -- namely 1 minute mean in the U.S., while 10 minutes mean in Japan. In general, the 10 minute mean wind speed is 0.88 times of 1 minute mean wind speed. Another aspect is that different methods are used for estimating maximum sustained wind from observation. Japanese offer hourly Global Rainfall Map in Near-Real-Time (GSMaP_NRT), available four hours after observation, using the JAXA Global Rainfall Watch System. The system is based on the combined MW-IR algorithm using GPM-Core GMI, TRMM TMI, GCOM-W1 AMSR2, DMSP series SSMIS, NOAA series AMSU, MetOp series AMSU, and Geostationary IR developed by the GSMaP (Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation) project. About cloud images Background cloud images use Globally-merged, full-resolution (~4km) IR Data, produced by NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC). Data uses infrared (IR) information observed by the geostationary satellites, including the MTSAT satellite by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the GOES satellites by U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Meteosat satellites by the European Meteorological Satellites Organization (EUMETSAT). Those data are provided through NASA/GSFC Precipitation Processing System (PPS). Since rainfall estimates are calculated mainly based on microwave radiometer observation, rainfall data will not be missing even if cloud image is missing in that pixel. They operate the JAXA/EORC GSMaP NRT System based on the combined MW-IR algorithm developed by the JST/CREST GSMaP project and use it to provide hourly global rainfall maps. The newly developed algorithm for the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission (GPM-GSMaP Ver.6) is used to retrieve rain rate, and product is the same to the GPM Global Rainfall Map product distributed from the JAXA G-Portal (https://gportal.jaxa.jp). GPM-GSMaP Ver.6 is the latest algorithm developed by the Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) project, and it is dbased on the heritage of the study Production of a high-precision, high-resolution global precipitation map using satellite data, sponsored by Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) during 2002-2007.
