Heres my opinion to the bands that decide not to be taper friendly when they think that stopping taping will increase your sales of a new album. The people that enjoy your music will buy your album no matter what. The people at the shows will buy your released show if they have the money. The fans you have will spend the money they allocate to you as they see fit. Most likely they will share it with a couple friends, who might be interested in your music, but wont buy it or attend a show. A taper will offer their tapes to the world. Sharing with 100,000s of thousands of people that love music and never profit from your music. You get known to their market. Most tapers have a sphere of influence through social media(Instagram, twitter, Facebook, blogs, fanpages, forums,...etc.) they have a far greater reach than most artists do, because of their craft, if they are good. Though I do know some tapers that just tape for themselves and do not share with the general public. I do not associate myself with them or promote their captures. Most tapers will buy tshirts, albums, live downloads, drinks, food, stickers and attend your next show if you remain taper friendly. If not, we say good bye and good luck, and stop promoting you. Of course, this is my opinion, and Im sticking with it.
