Heres my solution to the Ukrainian crisis. Assume for the moment that Vladimir Putins concerns for ethnic Russians and their cries for help is legitimate. Is the sensible thing not to get them somewhere safer? Why not open the border or send in fleets of Ilyushins in a laudable rescue mission? Compared to Russia, Crimea has way too many people, with a population density of 76 people per square kilometer, compared to Russias 8. (For comparison the US has 32 and Egypt 86.) Putin can show himself a humanitarian, save the threatened Russians, welcome them into the homeland so many of them apparently want to be part of, and throw in a square kilometer or two of homestead thatll never be missed in the steppes of Central Asia or the vast, welcoming reaches of Siberia. Bring them home!
