Heres one I throw out to everyone. The phrase Eyes Wide Shut - TopicsExpress

Heres one I throw out to everyone. The phrase Eyes Wide Shut appears in John le Carres novel TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY (1974). We know that Stanley wanted to adapt Schnitzlers TRAUMNOVELLE since the sixties. We know that Stanley and John le Carre were very close friends. (A) Did Stanley come up with Eyes Wide Shut and mention that phrase to Le Carre, who borrowed it for his book, or... ...(B) Did Stanley borrow that phrase from TINKER TAILOR? Additional question: How epic would have it been had Stanley adapted a Le Carre novel? The spy thriller - especially of the kind John le Carre writes - would have been right up Stanleys alley, dont you think?
