Heres one more for the back-to-basics series on fats. Interestingly, its not just saturated fats themselves that are a problem - refined sugars can be performance show-stoppers. Some sources report that refined sugars, more often than not, are readily converted to saturated fatty acids in the body. Because of this mechanism, refined sugars may contribute to hypoxia (poor oxygen availability). Therefore, strive to consume complex carbohydrates - they are full of fiber, are slow digesting, contribute towards stable energy, and are often chock full of vitamins and minerals.
