Heres one to ponder while your having your morning coffee...As the Apple offices were in the process of winding down in 1970, an employee supposedly discovered a tape reel in the trash can. He pulled it out, put it on the deck, and this is what he heard. This song has been a subject of quite heated debate among Beatle fans for years now; Peace Of Mind (sometimes the title listed is Candle Burns). Its been widely bootlegged as a Beatles out-take, though most versions of the song have poor quality audio. Some people think its genuine, others think its somebody trying very hard to sound like The Beatles. Certainly when Apple Records opened they went out of their way to ask for submissions from bands; Peter Asher has since said that very little of what came in was listened to, it was simply boxed and put away. Personally (and this is entirely conjecture on my part), I think this might be one of Johns home demos. The singing sounds like him but I dont hear either Paul or George on the track, and there is no drum part. John had a 4 track at home and made many demos there; if it is John, the sound and feel of the song would suggest this was written around the time of the Sgt. Pepper sessions, in early 1967.
