Heres some context: There have been 86 homicides in 2014 as of Sunday, compared to 104 homicides at the same time in 2013. Those 86 are too many - and, in the case of the children killed, utterly unacceptable - but I remember when the annual homicide totals were nearly double this in Milwaukee (early 1990s). According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, only two years - 2008 and 2009 - have registered fewer than 86 annual homicides in Milwaukee since 1989. So this is shaping up to be the third safest year homicide wise in Milwaukee since 1989. You wouldnt know it from the coverage.
