Heres some food for thought for progressives and liberal types: The longest lived and worst monopoly in the history of the US was the Bell Telephone monopoly. It was officially sanctioned and empowered as a monopoly by Americas first fascist President, Woodrow Wilson, who was also a Democrat, a Progressive, and an unabashed white supremacist. The telephone company monopoly forbade people from owning phones or even attaching inventive devices to phones. The telephone company monopoly withheld inventions from the public like call forwarding, call waiting, conference calling, the speaker phone and tone dialing, among other things. This kind of corporatist fascism was defended by politicians and the permanent government of the executive branch for decades. It only ended after President Nixons Justice Department filed an anti-trust suit against the Bell Companies. It dragged on for years until another man came along to finish the job. That man was Ronald Wilson Reagan. It was Reagans Justice Department who successfully argued before the Supreme Court. It was Reagan who broke up Ma Bell. There would be no internet without the vision of Ronald Reagan. There would be no smartphones without Ronald Reagan. There would be no call waiting, phone mail, call forwarding, digital dialing and all the advances made in telephony since the break up of Ma Bell, were it not for Ronald Reagan. Because of Ronald Reagan, nobody in America today worries about calling someone long distance because its too expensive. Prior to the breakup of their monopoly, AT&T overcharged consumers, destroyed competitors and even those who sought to improve what the phone company offered. It can also be said that without the breakup of AT&T, there would be no possibility of an internet using phone lines. Deregulation and competition in telephony brought about by Ronald Reagan has made having a telephone much less expensive while adding several orders of magnitude of functionality. People now routinely listen to music on their phones, customized to their tastes, watch movies and live television, read books, surf the web, communicate with family and friends by email, text and voice, make dinner and movie reservations, buy anything they want buy, conduct their banking, make appointments and and endless number of other things. None of it would have been possible had not Ronald Reagan demanded the breakup of AT&T. Do Liberals old enough to remember this, remember it? If you arent a Liberal, do you remember it? One reason why I believe Ronald Reagan is the greatest President of the 20th Century is because of acts like this one. But you dont hear Fox News talking about it, do you? And you certainly arent about to hear it from the NY Times or NBC News. So, I decided to remind everyone to think about what it means to be a leader. Why its important to have a positive and optimistic vision of the future and what is possible when ONE THING, JUST ONE THING changes for the better. But it can also work the other way, as well. When the wrong thing is changed, it can lead us in exactly the opposite direction. Lest I hasten to remind you..... https://youtube/watch?v=oKxDdxzX0kI
