Heres something for debate.... albeit srutiny by those most vocal among you: This graphic shows the extent of sea ice for the last few decades in the Arctic region. Now I know some of you like to harp on about how sea ice extent has increased, not realising or reading entire scientific papers in the process before forming your own hypotheses. So, I thought this might help simplify things for you. The inforgraphic clearly shows the extent of sea ice vs time and how its dropped off a cliff in the past couple of decades. It reflects the depth of sea ice vs time because in referring to extent, the scientific community is using terminology to describe the volume of sea ice. The critical measurement is the summer sea ice extent which reflects the volume of sea ice that will remain to form the foundation for sea ice formation the next winter cycle. Without this Historic sea ice, there is no sustainable Arctic, only open waters in the Summer months and juvenille ice forming in the winter....
