Heres something that came up in the way of politically correct talk that I dont get. There was a conversation I was in yesterday where I was told you shouldnt call bands that play Dixieland or New Orleans style Jazz Traditional Jazz. This is because this term is something white people started calling it. So my question is even if white people came up with this term, what is wrong with the word Traditional? I can see the problem with the word Jazz as it did mean something less than dignified way back in the day. But what hidden racist meaning is in the word Traditional? Is it just because white people coined it? Is that even true? I have no idea but I would really like to know because the water of semantics is already pretty deep out here. I dont want to offend anybody but at the same time it seems every week another word bites the dust and its hard to keep up. Has anyone else ever heard of this before?
