Heres something we just found out and might prove handy for you. How much do you know about car insurance? A couple of weeks ago we had someone run up the back of our car whilst at the traffic lights. The driver refused to give us his address and telephone number, insisting that was not necessary as our insurer would contact his insurance company. We have third party property insurance. Is he right? Here PART OF the rest of the story...if youre interested. He also said he didnt remember which company hes insured with. After 2 hours of waiting in the rain (at least we could wait in car and not get wet) the police attended. We got the drivers name and licence number but no address. The other driver was not charged. Our boot, brake light and a few other things were damaged ($4,000 worth as it later turns out). Next day at the police station we are informed only the constable who attended has the discretion to release the other drivers address and contact details. Hes on leave until next Sat. Left 3 or 4 message for the constable none of which were replied to. So in desperation I google the drivers name. Turns out hes a doctor in Brighton. Yesterday we went to his surgery and gave him a letter asking him to provide us with the name of his insurance company and lodge a claim for our damage. He doesnt want to do that insisting that his details are private and that we just go through our insurance company. Alternatively, we could get our car repaired at a repair company of HIS choice. This is the SHORT version. Plenty of obstructionism and other tactics this man used which I wont bore you with.
