Heres the Castlereagh cup report from the weekend. Send in info fans so we can get it up Bulldogs bound into top four The Warren Bulldogs have entered the top four on the Castlereagh League ladder when they scored an emphatic win over the Gilgandra Panthers in their round 9 game played at Gilgandra. With almost a quarter of the game gone the Bulldogs were staring at a 16 to 4 deficit after the home side had got away to an impressive start, but slowly they began to gain ascendency with their mercurial 5/8, Matt Hall, taking control of the game to score a hat trick of tries before the half time break to see his team head to the sheds as 26 to 20 leaders. The Panthers opened the scoring in the second stanza to bring them back to within two points but the Bulldogs were more than equal to the task and they went on to score another five tries to over-run the Panthers who were just not up to the defensive task being asked of them In the end the Doggies ran out 54 to 24 victors, a win that saw them leapfrog over both Coonamble and Gulgong on the ladder to secure outright third place. At the same time the Bulldogs have virtually snuffed out any hope that the Panthers may have had of defending their 2013 premiership, with their chances of reaching the semi finals, whilst still mathematically possible, being highly unlikely in reality. In a gripping contest played out at Coonamble, the Bears handed the Boronia Cup back to the Coonabarabran Unicorns after the visitors took out the thrilling encounter 29 to 26. It was a gutsy win by the Unicorns who were down on troops, but certainly not lacking in player quality and determination to come away with a memorable conquest in a game where neither team was able to get more than four points in front of their opposition at any stage With 15 minutes remaining a Michael Watton field goal for the Unicorns seemed to send the Bears into panic mode, and whilst the Unicorns defence did well to scramble to hold out raid after raid their cause was aided by some poor handling and the conceding of penalties by the home side in the final frenetic minutes. The win by the Unicorns sees them sitting comfortably in second position on the ladder whilst the Bears have a fragile grip on fourth place The Gulgong Terriers slipped out of the top four when they were beaten 34 to 12 in their game against competition front runners, the Dunedoo Swans. Played out in front of a large and vocal crowd at Dunedoo, the home side held a handy 22 to 6 lead at the break and in a tough match which featured strong defence they were able to restrict the visitors to a converted try in the second half whilst scoring two themselves to remain undefeated, firming as competition favourites. The remaining game saw the Trangie Magpies deliver their supporters their first long awaited win for the season when they completely over ran the visiting Coolah Roos. With Mikaira Skinner having an outstanding game in the centres the Maggies racked up 64 unanswered points to move off the bottom of the ladder, having the game well in hand at half time when they lead 30 points to nil The remaining Castlereagh League Round 9 scores Coonabarabran 29 (Peter Watton 2, Travis Smith, Michael Watton, Caine Thompson, Dustin Crawley tries, Michael Watton 2 goals and field goal) defeated Coonamble 26 ( Jake Lane 2, Nathan Burtenshaw, Barry Murray, Brad Pickering, Jarryd Rae tries, Pickering goal) Dunedoo 34 ( Chris Walkom 2, Tyson Searle, Troy Rose, Mitch Squires, Josh Flipo tries, Kerrin O’Malley 5 goals) defeated Gulgong 12 (Robbie Dowton, Jake Griffiths tries, Brad James 2 goals) Trangie 64 ( Paul Widders 2, Mikaira Skinner 2, Carl Moss 2, Blake McIntosh, Matt Ferrari, Aaron Waters, Jye Carter, Braden Carney tries, Ethan Sheedy 10 goals) defeated Coolah 0 Warren 54 ( Matt Hall 3, Graham Lake 3, Anthony Fuller, Kane Smith, Adam Pascoe, Adam Kentwell tries, Matt Stephens 7 goals) defeated Gilgandra 24 (Jamie Towney 2, Kasey Towney, Anthony Louie, Andrew Hammond tries, Luke Ritchie 2 goals) Competition ladder; Dunedoo 18, Coonabarabran 14, Warren 11, Coonamble 10, Gulgong 10, Gilgandra 5, Trangie 2, Coolah 2. Next week; Warren V Dunedoo, Gulgong V Gilgandra, Coonabarabran V Trangie, Coolah V Coonamble
