Heres the afternoon update regarding later tonight into early Monday morning. A powerful storm system will rapidly move over the state later this evening into early Monday morning. This system will have the potential to produce severe storms. The northwestern and western part of the state will be impacted later this evening, but our focus will be for the eastern third of the state. Thunderstorms will be up and running this evening to the west of I-35 by 1opm. Storms will approach the I-35 area around midnight and rapidly expand eastward through the early morning hours. A squall line is likely to develop with damaging wind potential and hail. Brief tornadoes embedded within the line would be possible in a few spots. The greater threat area may reside along and south of I-40 and east of I-35 where deeper moisture is likely to be in place as the line moves eastward. Any discrete thunderstorms in these areas could also produce severe weather including possible brief tornadoes. But the higher threat will remain a squall line type feature with strong to damaging winds. The hi-res models have offered different timing for the line over the past 12 hours. Ill post a 1am and 5am graphic based on the NSSL WRF 4k run from earlier. Some of the other hi-res models are slightly faster now compared to earlier runs. Regardless...this system will impact part of eastern OK overnight, so remain aware as the system approaches your area. The window for severe weather will not last long. Once the line moves eastward, some lingering rain may last for a while. Some spotty showers may continue across northeastern OK Monday afternoon, but would not be severe. The rest of the week ( Tue through Friday) appears in super great shape. Ill be logging off right after this post to rest up. The alarm clock will be an extra early one tonight.
