Heres the article for Week 6, hot off the keyboard, before it even hits the press! Congrats to the Honor Score bowlers last night, Buddy Lucas 804 Bobby Campagnale 300 Greg Neuer 300 and Jeff Carr 300. The week before had 7 Perfect Games between the two leagues on Monday, their picture is attached, it may have set a new USBC record. Congrats!! Lucky 7’s KEY to Victory! One week left and we have 4 teams with a shot to win, should be an exciting last week of the 1st round. Keystone Lanes were not just lucky, they were good, each member shooting at least 700 to finally beat The Pro Approach. It wasn’t easy as Frank Bad Ass Barefoot Jr. punched out in the 10th to take Game 1 by 11, only to see Keystone bounce back to take the last 4 points. Frank had another strong effort as he Hammered his way to 267/733, but couldn’t match the teamwork of Keystone who had Herbert Jones 705, Charles Zelaya 711, Andre Rounds 722, and Arnold Cheesman 266/757. Team DV8 shot the Team High Series (2908) and second high Team Game (1006) of the night, only to lose Game 3 to SYSCO, who put it all together at the end and won with 1011. All but two bowlers hit the 7 mark, with Brent Ilagan 278/768, Jeff Carr 300/759, and Sam “Scary as Alfred” Hitchcock 267/728 led the DV8 squad, while Gabriel Martinez 279/770, Charlie Kinstler 267/741, and Anthony Drapeau 726 were best for SYSCO. Cook’s Bowling Supply got solid efforts from Matt Mosley 279/693 & Ray Minter 700, as they overcame a Game 1 loss to take 4, and stay in mathematical contention for the Round. Powerhouse Video Games were led by Eddie VanDaniker 266/704. In the night’s closest match, Forest Lanes got a key double in the 10th from anchorman Mason Sherman to pull out a 3-2 win, taking totals by 8 sticks. It was the lone highlight for Mason, who struggled all night, while his teammate Zack “Not Retired” Jellsey basked in the spotlight all evening with 277/761 to overcome Threadworks, who were led by their anchor, Paul Varela 268/723. Josh Tajiri stormed his way to a 739, good enough for 4.5 wins for Pino’s Pizza over CASAMIGO’S Tequila led by Vernon Adams 267/696. Erickson Foods were blown out Game 1 by 106, only to regroup and take the last 4 points over Linder Insurance. Erickson was led by Bobby RATNMF Campagnale once again as he shot one of 3 perfect games for the night to finish at 754. Linder was led by Kevin Valmonte 266/690. American Harvest Vodka also lost Game 1, but finished strong to garner 3.5 points. Kevin Too Tall Jones led American Harvest, while DeeRonn Booker was on TRACK all night, shooting 268/755 for J.A.T. Dave Kovach 276/733 & James Tipton 701 helped BOWLIUM take down Tifco Industries 4-1 as only Mike Jennings 692 was able to score consistently for Tifco. Greg Neuer finished the night going sheet as he shot 300/732 to lead Blizz Yogurt to our night’s only sweep, 5-0 over Herzog Insurance. Greg got help from David Cogswell 703, while Justin JZ Ziegler topped Herzog with 692. David Gullett shot 279/742 for GJC Services and spoiled Ladies’ Night for Debbie Abahazy. Debbie struck gold often, going 266/709 to pace her team, Alhambra Gold Company, but it only resulted in one win. Finally, last but not least, actually the MOST, Buddy Lucas shot his second 800 of his career, going 279, 259, 266 for 804, and with a little help from Jonathan Huezo & his 694 managed another win for Los Altos Trophies. Sidepot winners were Game 1 Zack Cover Boy Jellsey 277 Game 2 Bobby Campagnale 300 and 3rd Game Super Pot to Gabriel Martinez with 279 (Thanks Greg!). The Financial Advisor’s 2nd game pot went to Bobby “Thumb Boy” Campagnale with his perfect 300 ($240) & David Gullett / Matt Mosley shared 2nd place money ($100) with a 279. Next week the top match will again feature Professional Approach & Keystone Lanes, in a rematch that could determine our 1st Round Champ. Keystone Lanes trails The Professional Approach by only 1 game, so winning Total Pins will be key. Team DV8 & Cook’s are hoping for a split from the top two, which could open the door for one of them to sweep in and take the Round. After 4 weeks without a perfect game, we have had 7 in the past two weeks, and two more 800 series! The USBC will be busy making key chains until this Round is over!! So if you want to see some of the best bowling So Cal has to offer, come on down to Del Rio Lanes in Downey and check it out. Next week we move onto the dreaded (for some!) short oil pattern, and for many, back to reality! Have a blessed week everyone; see you next Monday at Del Rio Lanes in Downey!
