Heres the corrections to the finance committee report: Im not sure if this is meant to be a report from the National Finance Committee itself i.e. was vetted through the committee or not, but in any case there are a few errors in it that need to be addressed and a few comments to be made. The current status of the NO-based accounting staff is as follows. Two employees have quit. Maria Gaite, who came to Pacifica via Robert Half, a provider of qualified accounting employees (RobertHalf) : Robert Half is an American human resource consulting firm based in Menlo Park, California. It is a member of the S&P 500, credited as being the worlds first and largest accounting and finance staffing firm, with over 400 locations worldwide. and Weiling Thai, who was employed at KPFA and transferred to the national office division in 2013. Two additional employees are on medical leave. Efren Llarinas, who worked under Lynn Magno when she was controller, prior to her dismissal in 2012, has been returned to the national office. I do not know who the other new/old employee is. Can you clarify, Brian? Pacificas compliance problems were identified by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 2011 after CPB performed an audit for the years 2008, 2009, and 2010. CPBs audit findings for those years can be found here: cpb.org/oig/reports/2012-09-21-Report-1208-Pacifica.pdf Armanino has made it clear in writing that audit completion will occur 8 weeks after the submission of required audit schedules, which has not yet happened. It is impossible to have the audit completed in August. The soonest the audit can possibly be completed is October of 2014. Issuing public statements that the audit will be completed in August is irresponsible and untrue. The state of the books in the current year can be ascertained from looking at documents. The profit and loss statement available from Pacificas books for the period October to December of 2013 can be found here: mediafire/download/h8p8yoanazgfpw0/Financial+statement+1st+Quarter+FY2014+-+Profit+and+Loss+%284%29.xls The data missing in the books for that quarter is about 30% of KPFAs income. The profit and loss statement available from Pacificas books for the period January to June of 2014 can be found here: mediafire/download/w3h5k5sq6kd385r/Incomplete_Financial_Statements.pdf The data missing in the books for those 2 quarters includes KPFKs revenues, KPFAs community events and crafts fair revenues and WBAIs community events income. Payroll data is available from the reports issued by the vendor Paychex that are delivered to the national office. It needs to be copied into Pacificas accounting system. A sample of a Paychex payroll report can be seen here in this Slide Share presentation: slideshare.net/tastel/paychex-payroll-presentation-6951136 The two vendors that have filed lawsuits against Pacifica are Robert Half, the personnel firm that provided accounting staff to the national office, and Free Speech Radio News, whose funding via Pacificas NPPAG grants was cut off with the rest of Pacificas Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant funding. Pacificas national office has had 8-10 staffers since 2009, when major cuts were made to national office staffing. The positions have been as follows: 1) An Affiliates Director position 2) A National Technical Director position 3) A part-time Web Management position 4) An Adminstrative Assistant position 5) An Executive Director position 6) A CFO position 7) A Controller position 8) An Accounting Analyst position 9) A Payroll and Benefits position 10) An Adminstrative Director position With the addition of two new accounting staff, the number of positions appears to be 7, the savings primarily coming from the omission of the executive director position. It would probably be helpful to provide the NFC and the PNB with a list of past-due payable bills. Legal bills were provided in a written summary to the PNB at the November 2013 in-person meeting and while somewhat lower than in years past, still contained large payables due on the dismissed Bernard White litigation at WBAI and the settled Esther Manila case at KPFA, as well as some unpaid bills to former counsel Andy Gold and Garvey, Schubert and Barer. There are probably increased bills from Crigler due to ongoing CPB negotiations and new bills from Siegel and Yee since that time. The statements about WPFW and KPFA beating their fund drive goals arent correct. WPFW received about $200,000 in held-back funds from previous years that were being witheld from the station due to a PCI compliance problem in previous years. This May 2014 windfall is listener donations from previous years when WPFW reported large deficits in listener support. According to the CFOs preliminary financial statement issued to the NFC, KPFA had raised $2,005 million in listener support so far this year and the budget to date indicated $2.007 million. The station is on target with the goals set by last years NFC, but is not surpassing them.
