Heres the information about the National Young Bird Show I - TopicsExpress

Heres the information about the National Young Bird Show I promised you in my short note late last night. First, let me say this was my first show as a club officer and things were rather chaotic due to my ignorance of procedures than they will be at future shows. I learned a lot, and things would have been a real mess if not for the competence and hard work of Sarah Holton, our club president Mike Holton, and Patti Millard who assisted Sarah. Sarah had a long day keeping the records straight for us and for our friends next door in the Portuguese Tumbler Club, and since I knew nothing about the record keeping Sarahs efficiency was much appreciated. I also want to thank all the club members who fetched birds from pens and brought them to the judging area and returned them. Please see the attached photos of Sarah (shes standing in the foreground and Patti is sitting) working diligently with everyone trying to keep things organized. Tim Heidrich (Georgia) judged the Figuritas after a long morning dealing with the responsibilities he has as secretary of the American Owl Club (the club for African Owls). Tim knows we are a new club and understands the difficulties, both financial and organizational, of getting a club going and keeping it going. Tim donated his time for judging the Figuritas and we greatly appreciate that. After a 10-minute break for Gatorade once he got done with the African Owls, Tim did a superb job of judging the Figuritas. There were more than 60 entries and the breeder who earned the ribbon for Best Hen and the trophy for Champion Valencian Figurita was a junior club member, Andrew Miles from Pennsylvania. Andrew bred a beautiful bird in excellent condition and with all the right elements. Andrew is a dedicated breeder. The ribbon for Best Cock went to a nice bird bred by Clifton Perkinson, who is not a member and the paperwork I have in fornt of me does not note where he is from. Sorry about that, Clifton. See the attached photos of Tim judging the Figuritas and of Andrew and Clifton receiving their awards. John De Carlo, Jr. (California) judged the Italian Owls late Friday afternoon, and he also donated his time to the VFIOC. John had additional responsibilities at the show on Saturday and, since all of the birds had been put in their pens, I agreed to let him judge Friday so he could meet his other obligations on Saturday. One person missed the judging because of this and I apologize for the problem. Bob Schultz won the awards for Best Cock, Best Hen and Champion Italian Owl with the best cock. Again, I want to thank all of you for your help and for being patient with someone whose experience at shows has always been that of a person who just needed to arrive, coop his birds, and talk to everyone. I learned a lot about what it takes to run a show and the people one depends on to get things done. Thanks one last time. On a final note, I want to welcome to the VFIOC the four new members who joined at the show and the one who called me on Sunday to join. They are Stanley and Robert Vercouteren, Jay Turner, Joseph Granger, and Nishka Swift. I invite those of you who are not yet members to join us as we work out the organizational bugs and develop the kind of club that dedicated Valencian Figurita and Italian Owl breeders deserve to have.
