Heres the story that I was interviewed for today. Id like to be able to cram so much more information into this minute and 31 seconds - mostly that we need everyone actively supporting legislative efforts to support breastfeeding moms (go to TXBFLeg! It needs a little updating, but theres a menu of ways to support bf bills!). I want to know if there are signs at the mother-baby room saying nursing mothers are welcome to nurse anywhere (for the fraction of society that misinterprets the existence of a private room as meaning that its use is an expectation and not an offer). Oh - & yes, Ive had a negative NIP experience, but to clarify, Ive never noticed any stares. I intentionally do not look for whether or not people are giving me disapproving looks. I dont care if they are & I assume that they arent. People who oppose NIP are in the minority, yall. I breastfed for SEVEN years without incident, & for the 2.5 years since. Its all over media, but that does not mean it will *ever* happen to you. Not that this story is about that, really. Its about an amenity offered to support breastfeeding moms. Moms who may have a wandering toddler to keep up with, or a distractible baby, or may be uncomfortable with NIP, or may need to pump. Im all for NIP to normalize breastfeeding - but thats to support breastfeeding, & so is this. So I do think this will help moms with breastfeeding, definitely.
