Heres the way I see it: Once upon a time, American news programs - TopicsExpress

Heres the way I see it: Once upon a time, American news programs consisted of news rather than commentary and opinion. There was a semblance of impartiality. I say semblance because of course the gatekeepers determined even in those days what news was brought to the attention of the public and because cameras always have been and always will be used to frame the story and to exclude parts of the scene that editors dont want to appear within that frame. So, I doubt whether any such concept as news that is completely unbiased and thoroughly fair and balanced is even possible. In those days, however, journalists did attempt to present both sides of a given story and even went so far as to expose government wrongdoing, even if the liberal slant, especially beginning with the Vietnam War coverage, was obvious to all--and of course 95% of the broadcast journalists and big names in print media journalism admitted to being liberals. From the mid-60s forward, until Fox News came along, there was no real heavyweight mainstream conservative voice to be found, at least not as the norm. And then along came Fox News, speaking with great clarity what conservatives had been thinking for decades. It was a refreshing breath of fresh air! I watched Fox for awhile until I couldnt take the rank partisanship anymore and quit them, too. Now, I get my news solely from the Internet, following both liberal and conservative websites and particularly the international English language press so that I can get a complete picture from all perspectives.
