Heres this ams ridiculous email message from my youngest daughters school district: Earlier this week a child was dragged by her school bus in Steuben County. It was the third such incident in a month. At a meeting with South Colonie school bus drivers last week, several reported that some of their students have items dangling off of their backpacks. They are items such as key chains, small stuffed animals, etc. The district urges parents to have their children keep all items like this off backpacks and scarves should be tucked inside their coat/jacket to prevent such accidents. Safety is of utmost importance. Thank you. Really? Heres an idea for school administrators across the state: mandate that drivers VISUALLY verify all exiting students have established a safe distance from the bus before continuing on...to suggest the prevention of these types of accidents is the responsibilty of young children is both idiotic and pathetic...If a bus driver drags a child with their bus then he/she shouldnt be driving children because its both negligent and incompetent...never mind the fact that students arent required to buckle up in these tin cans...
