Heres what an early morning walk is like in China. Trash - TopicsExpress

Heres what an early morning walk is like in China. Trash everywhere. HOWEVER, there will be a gazillion cleaners (we used to call street sweepers) out there before 7 a.m. and it will be nearly spotless. A small neighborhood type hotel had a man sleeping on the lobby sofa. His shoes were right in front of the door. Several people out walking (at 4:45 a.m.). Merchants in the little Muslim community near me, setting up their merchandise, getting ready for the day. Couples ballroom dancing at Songshan Park. Big boom box set up on a slightly elevated tiled plaza. Men with leather whips in the park and a huge top (like a spinning top) that they are skilled in popping with the whip and making it spin. Several playing badminton under street lamps. The walls surrounding Zhengzhou University are freshly painted with beautiful scenes of nature and ancient Chinese culture. (I need to go back and take pictures). Street food vendors setting up for the morning rush. Available taxis everywhere. Dozens of people exercising. They do various things that wed consider quite odd. Like, walking down the street clapping their hands (waking their bodies up). Or, walking backwards (even when its still dark out). Men walking at the river park and bellowing out periodically (always a pleasant surprise when they come up behind you and do that; HA! HA!). People on bicycles at the river park. The track at the stadium at Zhengzhou University was lit up and there were perhaps 50-60 people there walking. Horns honking almost continuously even though theres very few cars. (Chinese love the power of having a loud horn on their car. Ive seen cars going down the road with no other cars around, still honking their horns. I think they just love to do it. Perhaps a fun novelty.) I did happen to see a foreigner (white boy like me) on an e-bike on the campus of the university (quite a rare sight to see). Everyone staring at me (thats normal here). Water trucks washing down the streets. Construction crews going to work near my home who are double-decking a major street (you wont believe how fast they can build things; their engineering is quite amazing as well). Thats a NORMAL day here in East Central China. And, last but certainly not least, a big ole white boy from Texas. Yee-haaah!
