Heres why I love Michiganders… when times are hard, the community doesnt wait for help, instead they create their own solutions. Here is one example from Highland Park, MI: To forgive an outstanding 4 million dollars worth of electrical debt in the city, a reduction of the street light footprint was negotiated by the powers that be. In total, 1100 streetlights were repossessed, leaving the thoroughfares lit, and neighborhoods dark. No neighborhood should remain dark. Soulardarity is a grassroots campaign working to replace the light posts with solar power lights so that the children can play, and people can feel safe when the return home at night. Through contributions Soulardarity has been able to replace two lights so far. They are currently working to raise funds to replace another light post. That campaign ends on Monday. Heres a shout out to their project leader, Jackson Koeppel who lives in Highland Park. Keep working to light up Highland Park Jackson! Your effort has not gone unnoticed and Michigan is proud of you!
