Heres why I think this Arctic Blast may be the worst of the season. FOR WEATHER GEEKS ONLY: Ive been saying for a week and a half that a prolonged period of extreme cold is coming! The snow this morning is part of a Clipper that moves east this afternoon leaving another couple inches of fresh snow on the ground. A more significant Arctic Front arrives around 2AM tonight with up to an inch of snow and the really cold air. Heres the hour-by-hour forecast for temperatures (wind chills) tomorrow. Notice how quickly it drops: 5AM 15 (0) 8AM 11 (-6) 11AM 9 (-8) 2PM 6 (-12) 5PM 1 (-17) 8PM -3 (-21) 11PM -8 (-27) A WIND CHILL WATCH has been issued as wind chills will drop to dangerously cold lows between 30-40 below from tomorrow night until Wednesday morning. We are calling for a low of -13 Tuesday morning and a high of only 0 Tuesday afternoon. Some of you may not make it above 0! Temperatures could drop as low as -10 again Tuesday night. Heres why I think the temperature could be even colder than our current forecast. 1. Skies will be clear. 2. Winds will start to diminish from 10-15mph on the day tomorrow to 5-10 tomorrow night. 3. Fresh snow on the ground. The snow reflects the energy during the day and then radiates energy away at night. See the graphic Ive posted below. As for records... surprisingly, we may not break any!
