Here’s 4 ridiculously simple things you can do in the next few days to end the year well: 1. Finish The Things You’ve Started. Take a look back over the year, get out your calendar, to-do lists and email in- box. Think about what you’ve left undone this year. Is there anything major? What about a whole lot of minor things? Are there people you should have connected with? Jobs you should have done? Take some time before the year ends to get them done. Use the end of year as a deadline to motivate and encourage yourself. By simply finishing the things you’ve made a start on, or should have done, you’ll end this year well and start the new year with a clean slate. You’ll be ready for all the new items to add to your lists. You wont be held back by the things you should have already completed. It’s easy – finish the things you’ve started and you’ll end the year well! 2. Prioritise God Over the Holidays. I don’t know what your church attendance or your commitment to personal devotion is like. I do know that part of being a follower of Jesus, and doing life His way, is about gathering with your community of faith. I do know that a personal commitment to the word of God, and to prayer, is also essential. If you’ve not opened the Bible at all this year, or even if you’ve read it cover to cover, my encouragement to you is to prioritise the Word and your devotional life this Christmas. As for church, it’s always focused on Jesus at this time of year. The real story of Christmas is sure to be told. You can make certain your life is in line with His truth no matter what it’s been like the rest of the year. So show up. Be in church over the holiday season. Choose to place Jesus, His word and His will at the centre of your life. The result will be that you end this year well and start the new year positioned for all God has for you. 3. Plan Now To Start The New Year With Focus. Most people, whether they’ll admit it or not, make new years resolutions. By day two of the new year though they’ve already forgotten them. Instead of making some off-the-cuff resolutions, plan now what your focus will be for the new year and write it down. You don’t have to know all the steps to get there, just know where you’re going to head. Know the general direction. Know what you’re aiming at. Know now where you’d like to be by the end of next year. Divide your focus list into sections; Spiritual Life, Family Life and Vocation for example. Decide now the kind of person you’re going to become by the end of next year. By doing this before the new year you’ll finish the current year with a sense of purpose for what’s to come. Then this time next year you can compare your plan with where you ended up. 4. Decide Now, How You’re Going To Spend New Years Eve. It may sound simple and perhaps redundant, but a lot of people struggle to make good and Godly choices on New Years Eve. There’s parties and celebrations which are fun and to be enjoyed, but it can also be a time of excess and bad decisions. What isn’t normally an issue can suddenly, with peer pressure and the thoughts of a new year looming, become an issue. People find themselves doing things they know they shouldn’t and making choices they wouldn’t normally make. They find themselves in situations they wouldn’t normally be in. Avoid all that. Decide now how you’re going to spend New Years Eve. Decide who you’re going to be with. Decide where you’re going to go. Make definite plans. Godly plans. When you do that you’ll be sure to have a great time, end the year well and be God- honouring in the process. These 4 points may all sound easy – they’re intended to. It’s not hard to end the year well – if you think through these points, and then actually implement them – you’re going to end the year the way you should. No question about it. You’ll come to the last day of the year with a sense of accomplishment. A sense of purpose about the year to come will also be yours. It’s going to be fantastic! Over To You.
