Here’s Peter Theremin playing Gershwin’s SUMMERTIME at the BOO! SCIENCE-FEST, held earlier this month in the city of Vladimir (about 120 miles east of Moscow). Peter’s theremin playing is constantly improving and this performance is pretty darn good. He has an excellent ear for pitch. In the piece that follows this (Rachmaninoff’s VOCALISE), which is more difficult, you can see his frustration with his own “pitchiness”. IMNSHO, he needs to relax his pitch arm (the more tension you carry in your pitch arm the more difficult accurate articulation becomes), and he needs to stop pumping with his volume hand. Peter handles himself very well on stage and he speaks beautifully. He is relaxed and “in charge”. At the end of the show he invites people onto the stage to try out the instrument.
