Here’s a great opportunity to get funding for college – the College Bound Scholarship program. Low-income families with students in eighth grade have until June 30 to sign up. The program, administered by the Higher Education Coordinating Board, promises to pay tuition (at public institution rates) and a small book allowance. Students are eligible for the College Bound Scholarship if they qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch program, are in foster care, receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits or meet other income standards set by the program. As part of the application process, students are asked to pledge to get good grades, demonstrate good citizenship and enroll in an approved college or university or career school. Income eligibility will be re-checked during the student’s senior year. Students can apply as early as seventh-grade, but no later than the end of their eighth-grade year. wsac.wa.gov/college-bound.
