Here’s a literary walk with an intriguing theme: a stroll around Liverpool’s city centre and waterfront, exploring writers from or connected to the city who went to sea, wrote about the sea or were inspired by it - Herman Melville, Malcolm Lowry, Elizabeth Gaskell, James Hanley, Jack Kerouac and many more. The itinerary includes locations associated with the writers themselves or with their books. The tour’s led by Deborah Mulhearn, an expert on Liverpool literature and a regular contributor to The Merseysider magazine. Organised by the Bluecoat, the ‘Down to the Sea in Ships’ tour takes place on Sunday 28th July (2.30 – 4pm). It’s great value – in fact it’s free! - though booking is recommended.
