Here’s a new invasive plant to watch out for: common wormwood, or mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris). This Eurasian species spreads by plant fragments, so be careful not to help it along by mowing it or driving on it along roadside edges. We found this growing at Chipman Preserve and treated it with two different herbicides five days before Mitch took the photo: triclopyr (left) and glyphosate (right). Testing on a small scale first with herbicides having different modes of action will give us a better understanding of how we should treat larger areas next spring, when this patch will be reassessed. Mitchs second photo provides a close-up view. To learn more about this plant: michiganinvasives.org/facts/detail.php?id=76
