Here’s a story about why the grass isn’t greener. You might - TopicsExpress

Here’s a story about why the grass isn’t greener. You might not need it, you might. Either way, it’s cute. At the beginning of the school year, Sam wanted Blake and I to get a divorce. He said “I can get free food at school if you get a divorce”. I clarified that you don’t get free lunch because your parents are divorced. He corrected me, he said I was wrong. I didn’t want to argue. So as we packed his sack lunch day in and day out, he was stuffing more and more food in it. I said, “Sam, really? How can you possibly eat 3 granola bars, 4 cheese sticks and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch? That’s ridiculous!” Sam said, “I can trade for a free lunch. Yesterday they had potatoes and macaroni and cheese and it was HOT!”. Uh. That boy, I thought, his parents must be divorced and he qualifies for reduced lunch. I again clarified, “It’s not free if I am buying all the granola bars and cheese sticks!”. Sam stood strong. "I like the hot better, and it’s free." Months went by, and Sam would come home starving. I would ask, “How can you be hungry if you packed that much food for lunch?” He would tell me he wasn’t hungry at lunch so he didn’t eat it all. I thought that was very interesting. Where did it go? I wondered, now June, school almost over. “What is his name?”, I asked Sam. Sam then told me his name and how his mom has “…staj 4 co… something” I said to Sam that must be very hard. He said “yes, mom”. And there was little talking for some time. Sam said, “I sometimes pretend to like hot lunch, mom”. I said “yes, I know, Sam”.
