Here’s a video trailer of the first concert of the 19th edition of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival: youtu.be/cbkRl6g3MYw. This year the festival will run from September 12 to 14 marking one hundred years since the start of the First World War (1914 — 1918). Valery Gergiev will conduct three concerts at the De Doelen concert hall in Rotterdam, each having a specific name. The first concert, on Friday, September 12, played by the Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, is named “The Western Front” and features works by Edward Elgar, Maurice Ravel, Béla Bartók and Sergei Prokofiev. Valery Gergiev had been Principal Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra from 1995 to 2008 and founded the annual Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival in 1996.
