Here’s an alternative method of looking at the top teams in the nation (those with one loss or less) counting only their win/loss results against other Power Five conference teams. 1. Alabama +42 margin 2. Florida State +41 3. Oregon +40 4. TCU +38 5. Ohio State +32 6. Mississippi State +30 7. Baylor +22 The formula is simple addition. No points are awarded for playing and beating a team outside the Power 5, so it rewards those who schedule tough outside of conference. Example: Alabamas two (soon to be three) victories against weak mid major teams do not count at all. Alabama loses two points for each of Ole Miss losses because Alabama lost to Ole Miss. Alabama gains points for each win credited to the Power Five teams Alabama has beaten: West Virginia (6 pts), Florida (5), Arkansas (5), Texas A&M (7), Tennessee (5), LSU (7), Mississippi State (9). 44 Alabama win points, minus 2 loss points = +42 Power Five win margin. The results roughly approximate the actual committee vote, with the glaring exception that the committee ranking doesnt respect how deceptively weak Mississippi States schedule and record were while it was unbeaten.
