Here’s the latest from QFES crews on the ground as at 10.30am: • No significant incidents overnight; • QFES helicopters have been in the air since 6am to assist and assess the areas of Cooktown and Hope Vale; • Rapid damage assessments are happening now in Cooktown and Hope Vale; • All areas affected by Cyclone Ita are being assessed – if the area has a fire station or brigade crews are on the ground; • No access north and south from the Daintree River as the ferry has been damaged; • No planned evacuations in Ingham; • The Bruce Highway is open between Ayr and Townsville, however, there is some water over the highway at Alligator Creek; • The Bruce Highway to the north and south of Ingham is closed due to flooding; • Local roads in Ingham are being closed as they are impacted by water. All roads into Halifax are flood affected. Phone 13 19 40 for information on road closures; • The Hinchinbrook Council’s call centre 4776 4600 is taking calls from residents; • Residents in low-lying areas of Hinchinbrook are being door knocked; • Experienced SES flood-boat operators have been deployed to the Far North. Don’t put our volunteers or firefighters at risk by entering flooded roads or causeways.
