Here’s the latest on the various air quality advisories in effect in Colorado this afternoon (Thursday, June 20): •WILDFIRE SMOKE HEALTH ADVISORY for EL PASO COUNTY, effective from 3 p.m. Thursday until at least 4 p.m. Friday. This advisory is due to smoke from the West Fork Complex, East Peak and Sheep Creek Fires. •WILDFIRE SMOKE HEALTH ADVISORY for SOUTHEAST COLORADO, effective from 3 p.m. Thursday until at least 9 a.m. Friday. This advisory is due to smoke from the West Fork Complex and East Peak Fires. •WILDFIRE SMOKE HEALTH ADVISORY for SOUTH-CENTRAL COLORADO, effective from 3 p.m. Thursday until at least 9 a.m. Friday. This advisory is due to smoke from the West Fork Complex and Sheep Creek Fires. •ACTION DAY for PARTICULATES for EL PASO COUNTY, 4 p.m., effective from Thursday until at least 4 p.m. Friday. An Action Day indicates that monitors in the area are expected to record values for the stated pollutant that exceed the federal health-based standard. •The Wildfire Smoke Health Advisory for the Southern Front Range that was issued Thursday morning at 9 a.m. has been canceled (good news for the Denver-metro area). •The Action Day for Ozone for the Front Range Urban Corridor was allowed to expire (another small piece of good news). We know this is a lot of information! One of the challenges when forecasting smoke impacts is that the footprint of the areas impacted changes frequently. Further complicating our task is that, with so many fires burning, the mix/combination of fires affecting a given area is changing, too, based on winds and other factors. For specific information about what to expect where you are, head over to the Colorado Smoke Outlook we post at colorado.gov/airquality/addendum.aspx#smoke. Each advisory and fire is discussed individually there…
