Hero Dog Saves Newborn Tossed into Thailand Trash Dump Written on 06/07/2013 by Brandy Arnold i Little Pui is now a worldwide hero after saving the life of a tiny premature infant discarded in a trash dump in Thailand. A tiny infant girl, weighing in at less than 5 pounds, now owes her life to a scruffy-haired family dog in Thailand. ‘Little Pui’ is a Thai Bangkaew dog belonging the Gumnerd Thongmak and his family. Pui is regularly allowed to wander around his rural community in tambon Sala Loi in Tha Rua district of Ayutthaya looking for scraps of food and lounging in the sun. Last week, however, he came across something that he knew wasn’t right. Pui found a white plastic bag in a nearby trash dump. The brilliant little dog carried the bag home, placed it on the patio, and barked loudly until his owner’s 12-year old niece, Sudarat, came outside to check on him. She was shocked to find a tiny, premature infant inside the bag. As reported in The Bangkok Post, Sudarat ran to get her mother. The baby was extremely small and clearly in a dangerously weak condition, so they rushed the baby to Tha Rua Hospital. “It′s lucky that Little Pui found the baby,” his other owner, Poomrat Thongmak told Thailand’s Khaosod newspaper. “It was a surprise to us, since Little Pui never brought anything home, only barking at strangers when he’s out and about.” Poomrat announced that she would like to adopt the tiny infant that her dog carried home. Because she only has one child and this infant was literally dropped at her doorstep, Poomrat said that it “must be destiny that brought us together.” Pui was awarded with a new leather collar, a medal of appreciation, free veterinary care, and food and supplies valued at $300 for her amazing rescue of the infant girl. While investigators have not found the infant’s mother, they believe she was a teenager working at a nearby factory. Meanwhile, Little Pui has become a worldwide hero. Tha Rua Red Cross officials awarded him a leather collar and a medal as a token of appreciation. A local veterinarian gave Pui a free check-up and examination, and a local man gave the family 10,000 baht (about $300) for food and supplies for the four-legged hero.
